Patrick Gabaakanye of
Marulamantsi ward in Serowe was executed yesterday at Gaborone Central
Prison following a conviction for murder.
A statement from Botswana Prison
Service's public's relations officer, Senior Superintendent Wamorena Ramolefhe,
says the High Court sentenced Gabaakanye to death on March 13, 2014.
The statement says Gabaakanye's
criminal record included two offences of robbery and murder. He killed a
security guard using a hand gun during robbery and was sentenced to 10 and 15
years imprisonment respectively for both offences.
It further says Gabaakanye was also
convicted for the murder of a 75-year-old man at Gamosusu land in Metsimotlhabe
in Kweneng District on May 26, 2010.
His appeal against conviction and
sentence was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on July 30 last year, says the
statement.
