POLICE ACCUSED OF BRUTALITY BY STRIKING NEW ERA STUDENTS

New Era College Student Representative Council SRC president Anderson Diteko has expressed concern over harsh treatment on students by the Police during their peaceful demonstrations against the college management.

Diteko told Yarona FM News that ever since they started protesting, police have been using violence against them even though their demonstrations were peaceful.
He added that one female student got injured during the riots while others were arrested.

For his part, Sir Seretse Khama Airport Police Station Commander Kenneetse Keakile dismissed the allegations, stating that police only arrested students who did not take heed of their request to leave the school premises.
He added that they did not receive any report of injuries.

Cristiano Ronaldo Hit Out At His Team-mates!?

'if everyone else was at my level maybe we would be top of the table' – CR7
CR7 slammed his team-mates on Saturday night following their 1-0 defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann netted the only goal of the game as Zidane lost his first Madrid derby and may have seen his side’s title dreams extinguished in the process.
Real Madrid is 9 points behind Barcelona having played a game more.

CR7 continued saying: ‘We had more chances than them but it was not to be. The league is now very difficult but we still have the Champions League to play for.
'We are without Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Pepe. We have a lot of injuries and it is difficult under those circumstances.

'I don’t want to talk badly about my team-mates, but I would rather play with Gareth and with Karim and with Marcelo and it is not the same when they are not there.’

Gianni Infantino Is The New President Of FIFA

Gianni Infantino was confirmed as the new president of FIFA on Friday after a day of balloting in Zurich.

Infantino secured the majority needed to take the post in the second round of voting, with Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa his closest rival for the position.
The 45-year-old UEFA general secretary, a lawyer and sports administrator who joined European football's governing body in 2000 and rose through the ranks, became FIFA's first new president in 18 years.

Infantino was elected in the second round of voting with 115 of the 207 votes from FIFA's national associations, defeating Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who had 88.
Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan retained 4 votes, and former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne of France had none once voting went to a 2nd ballot after no candidate earned the required two-thirds majority of votes in the initial voting process.
Infantino led the first round with 88 votes, followed by Sheikh Salman with 85, Prince Ali with 27, and Champagne with 7.

During his campaign, he promised more of key FIFA gifts to member federations: more guaranteed funding from FIFA's $5 billion-plus World Cup revenue, more places in an expanded 40-team tournament and more opportunities to stage the World Cup with multi-national regional hosting.

Rebels With A Cause: Botswana's Heavy Metal Fashion

Photographer Frank Marshall captured the rockers in all their Hell's Angels-style glory as part of his Renegades exhibition, on display at the Rooke Gallery in Johannesburg.
"Metal was seeded here [Botswana] by a classic rock band that started in the early 70s. Since then, it's evolved and grown," he said.
"In the last 10 to 20 years, it's come to be visually composed of what it looks like now -- the guys dressed in leather. It started off with classic rock and later on more extreme forms of metals were introduced."

Marshall described a macho scene with unique rituals, adding: "There's a strong sense of camaraderie amongst them. That's the first thing you'll notice about them as an outsider coming in. They've got a very strong bond and friendship with each other.
"They're very physical. At the shows, you don't just shake their hands. They'll grab your hand and shake you around.
"They embody the very aggressive elements of metal. It's an expression of power. Everything is an expression of power for them, from the clothes to the way they speak to the way they walk. They walk with very deliberate lurching strides.
"To them, it's perfectly normal. Maybe for an outside observer, from the west it might seem bizarre or comical but not here. They're respected and revered in some ways as well."

With names like Demon and Gunsmoke it would be easy to dismiss the rockers as thugs. But in fact, the titles come with a strong awareness of social responsibility.
"We try to portray a good figure. We're trying to be role models. I know rock used to be a hardcore thing but actually it's something in our heart too," heavy metal head Gunsmoke said.
"It's all about brothers in arms. Brothers in metal -- we're there for each other. That's the way we identify ourselves."

The leather-clad rockers share a similar aesthetic to notorious motorcycle gang the Hell's Angels. But that's where the likeness ends. According to Gunsmoke, the African head bangers are seen as a type of guardian angel, rather than the Hell's variety.
"Kids follow us around. Parents approach us. We're there for a good cause actually. We help people on the streets at night," he said.
And for the hardcore fans, heavy metal is more than just a scene -- it's part of the national identity.
Even the Botswana president Ian Khama is a fan. Or at least that's according to Gunsmoke.

"We want to make him proud. He made us proud with one man like him leading the nation. Why should we be scared when our president is a rocker?" Gunsmoke argued.
"Bots is known as a small country. People used to think it was a province of South Africa.
"But if we can stand tall on this family then we can be known as much as the country was unknown."
It's a uniquely African movement, and one that celebrates a special spiritual connection to the land.

Gunsmoke pointed to the use of animal horns in fashion, as a representation of Africa.
"Most of us are in a tribe. The totems are animals. We've got the crocodile, lion, hare, rabbit. You name it. It's part of your culture," he added. "

Ronaldo Makes History On Social Media

Cristiano Ronaldo is widely considered to be one of the world's most popular athletes, and he has now become the first athlete to gain 200 million followers on social media.

The Portuguese forward has reached 200 million followers across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, according to social media tally database Hookit.

Ronaldo has about 109.7 million fans following him on Facebook, 49.6 million followers on Instagram and 40.7 million on Twitter.

Ronaldo might trail rival Lionel Messi in Ballon d'Or trophies, but he's easily winning the social battle. Messi has 120.8 million followers, though he doesn't have a Twitter account.

The Real Madrid star now boasts more followers than prominent past and present NBA stars Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry's combined 187m.

According to the database, Ronaldo averages about 135 000 new followers every day across all social media platforms – crazy for someone who is just a footballer at the end of the day.

Dybala & Sturaro seal brilliant comeback for Juventus

The visitors dominated early on but took their foot off the accelerator once they went two goals ahead, allowing the Bianconeri to seal an unlikely tie
Paulo Dybala and Stefano Sturaro both scored their maiden Champions League goals as Juventus recovered from a 2-0 deficit to secure a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in a see-saw first leg of their last-16 tie.

The visitors looked to be coasting to a fourth straight win over their Italian opponents when they went two goals up, Thomas Muller getting the first of them on 43 minutes when converting a cutback from Douglas Costa.
A curling strike from Arjen Robben 10 minutes after the break was no more than Bayern deserved for their dominance.

Yet Juventus produced a dramatic recovery in the final half-hour, starting with Dybala halving the deficit with a cool finish following a defensive mistake by the German side.
The comeback was complete when substitute Sturaro scored just seven minutes after coming on, the midfielder turning home fellow replacement Alvaro Morata’s header across the face of goal.
The second leg takes place in Munich on March 16.

A Brace From Lionel Messi Gave Luis Enrique's Men Advantage

Lionel Messi's late brace secured a seemingly decisive first-leg advantage for Barcelona as the defending champions beat Arsenal 2-0 in an absorbing Champions League last-16 clash.

Messi and his forward colleagues Neymar and Luis Suarez headed to Emirates Stadium with 91 goals between them this season, but were initially starved of opportunities by an Arsenal side playing with impressive discipline and intensity.
