ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER Ref: DCC* 0000201
JOB SUMMARY
To provide strategic environmental input to ensure Debswana strategies and requirements are incorporated into major projects, from concept stage through to operation. The Environmental Manager plays an active role in major projects to ensure proactive identification and management of Environmental risks and opportunities. The role drives compliance with internal and external standards through effective reviews and monitoring of timing and scheduling requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Environmental Management or equivalent.
6 years relevant environmental management experience in a mining or similar environment, including exposure to environmental management systems implementation, sustainability risk management and translating sustainability management principles into practical standards, processes and guidelines and project management.
Basic business and project management skills training.
KEY ACTIVITIES
Supports major project reviews in order to monitor performance and compliance with internal and external standards and performance criteria.
Communicates the Environmental Corporate/ BU strategy and standards to project teams and ensures awareness of environmental risks, issues and opportunities. Manages consultants / contractors to ensure achievement of required standards.
Leads the implementation of strategic projects related to Environmental Management and ensure all project designs integrate environmental factors and risk management from the earliest opportunity.
Provides subject matter expertise into the Environmental vision, strategy, policy, standards, processes and targets.
Conducts best practice identification, broad scanning activities, including legislative developments related to Environmental Management, and leads cross-pollination and sharing of knowledge and ideas between project teams, driving continuous improvement.
Provides expert input, and collaborates and engage with other technical specialists, to manage key risks and issues across major projects.
Develops and implement stakeholder management plans and drive effective stakeholder engagement across disciplines. Manage relationships with senior stakeholders.
Tailor and embed controls / accountabilities within projects to ensure S&SD collaborate effectively with other disciplines to monitor and manage regulatory compliance (includes licensing and permitting). Provides input to projects in areas of regulatory compliance risk relative to timing and scheduling requirements.
